How To Change FOV in Starfield: It is a great game in many ways, but it is an embarrassment that Starfield, a big-budget AAA flagship title, does not let you modify your FOV settings on PC. When you go into the settings menu, there is no slider or option for your player’s Field Of View.
Furthermore, among the exhaustingly vast list of Starfield console commands and cheats, there is no option to set one’s FOV. So, you will have to do it yourself if you want to adjust your Field Of View.
If you are not sure what your FOV is in games, imagine it as how far back your camera is. The further back the camera is (and the larger your field of view), the more you can see on the sides and farther away some areas appear to you. So, let us dive straight in and find out how to change FOV in Starfield.
Starfield: How to Change FOV
Right off the bat, we would like to inform you that there is no actual in-game setting that will allow you to change your FOV setting in the Starfield Console version. The setting to do so which is located in the game setting for most games, doesn’t exist in Starfield.
Due to the lack of this setting, only PC players can tweak their FOV settings in the game while others are just out of luck. Developers might add it in some later updates or DLCs, but we should not get our hopes high just yet.
In Starfield, you can modify your field of view. However, as previously stated, there is no setting for it in-game, so you will need some outside assistance. You could always download a mod to extend your field of view. (One popular mod for this is the in-game FOV adjuster, which allows you to modify the FOV via console commands.) However, if you download a mod to adjust the FOV, you will be unable to gain Starfield’s accomplishments.
Fortunately, you can alter your FOV in Starfield without using mods or the non-existent in-game settings, but you will need to create a text file. We can assist you with this.
We will break things down into as basic a list as possible so that you can get this over with as soon as possible and jump right back into the game:
- Launch File Explorer.
- Go to My Games > Starfield in Documents.
- Select the View button at the top of the screen and check the “file name extensions” box.
- Right-click in the white space beneath your existing Starfield files. Choose New > Text Document.
- Name your new text file StarfieldCustom.ini (with the correct case).
- After you hit enter on the rename, your text file should be named “StarfieldCustom.ini.txt.” Remove the.txt extension from the end of the file and click “yes” when your computer asks whether you are sure you want to alter the extension.
- Open the StarfieldCustom.ini configuration file.
- For the first line type: [Camera]
- In second line, type exactly this: fFPWorldFOV=x
- Follow by: fTPWorldFOV=x in the third line.
- Replace the x with the FOV of your choice in the first person (second line), third person (third line), or both. Play around with the numbers until you discover one that works for you. However, a value less than 100 will give you a more zoomed-out view without making things look strange.
- Once you’ve chosen your FOV, save the file and your changes (reopen it to ensure it worked).
- Close the file explorer and launch Starfield.
- Load your most recent save and bask in the joy of a better FOV.
If you ever wish to alter your FOV again, repeat this process beginning with step 11.
Conclusion
If you have followed our instructions to the T, you should have successfully changed your Field of View in Starfield.
Now it is your time to just kick back and relax. Take in the breathtaking universe that the developers have created with years of development and we hope you have a great time!
